What is the difference between A1 and A2 Fire Rating?

A1 materials cannot contribute to fire at all, while A2 materials may produce minimal smoke or droplets under extreme heat. Both are classed as non‑combustible and suitable for balconies and terraces

Are Class A materials required for balconies?

Yes. UK regulations require non‑combustible materials for “specified attachments” such as balconies, terraces, and roof gardens.                                

    

What is fire‑rated decking?

Fire‑rated decking refers to outdoor flooring engineered to resist ignition and limit fire spread, typically achieving Class A1 or A2‑s1,d0 ratings under BS EN 13501‑1.

What does “Class A” decking mean?

Class A decking is a non‑combustible external flooring system that has passed strict fire‑reaction tests and is legally permitted on high‑rise buildings above 11 metres.

Do you offer fire‑rated decking  that looks like natural wood?

Yes. Many our Class A decking boards from both Fire Deck - Fibre Cement Decking and ExaDeck - Porcelain Decking boards are manufactured with realistic wood‑grain textures and colours.

Do offer a fire‑rated pedestal or support system?

Yes, we also offer Wallbarn branded a A1 fire‑rated pedestal system uses non‑combustible or low‑combustibility components (A1/A2) to support decking on balconies, podiums, and terraces while meeting fire‑safety regulations.

In addition we also create and supply you or your installer with a detailed plan and layout guide.

How long does fire‑rated decking last and what warranties do you provide?

High‑quality aluminium and our Fibre‑cement systems can last 50+ years, with ExaDeck lasting 1,000+ years.

Both our Fire Deck - Fibre Cement Decking and ExaDeck - Porcelain Decking come with 30-year warranties.

Yes. We provide project‑specific layout drawings, joist setting plans, and system details to support your specification package. 

Can Fire Deck assist with early‑stage design?

We support architects with design intent guidance, build‑ups, and system recommendations to ensure compliance from concept stage.

What substrates can Fire Deck systems be installed on?

Concrete, steel, waterproofing membranes, and other stable structural surfaces — provided they meet load‑bearing requirements.

Do Fire Deck systems allow for drainage and fall compensation?

Yes. Our adjustable Class A pedestals and joist systems allow for precise height control and drainage planning

Are BIM or CAD files available?
